Book launched to celebrate NT seafood
The Northern Territory Seafood Council will tonight proudly launch the long anticipated book Northern Territory Seafood at an event hosted by Minister Willem Westra van Holthe at Parliament House.
“This is a unique and stylish book and it is just fantastic to see images from the Northern Territory fisheries and to read stories that provide an insight to our industry that has never before been captured, from anywhere,” said Northern Territory Seafood Council Chairman, Mr Rob Fish.
“Launched at Parliament House amongst a diverse crowd, it reflects the support for our fantastic and sustainable seafood industry – the love of NT Seafood has been captured in this book and is something for all Territorians to be proud of – our NT seafood.”
“Photographer and author David Hancock has captured the passion and the drive of the territory fisher and why they continue to work day in, day out to provide seafood,” Mr Fish stated.
“For those that want delicious and practical seafood recipes the book has 80 recipes designed by Chefs Steve Sunk and Jason Wilkes, easy to follow and simply stunning seafood dishes that I know I will be using at home .” Mr Fish said.
“This book takes the reader on a journey into the lives of the Northern Territory professional fisher, exposes them to the abundance of seafood in Northern Territory waters, and provides easy to follow mouth-watering seafood recipes,” Mr Fish said.
“For many, this book will be full of surprises and it will dispel some of the mystery and myths surrounding the seafood industry and highlight the sustainability initiatives that the Northern Territory has in place,” Mr Fish went on to say.
Over the past two years north Australian photographer and writer David Hancock has travelled the breadth of the Top End documenting the lives and activities of professional fishers – down to the mouth of the Roper River with Vietnamese-born mud crabbers, off the islands with coastal line fishermen, along the coast in barramundi boats. His lens has accompanied trawlers and Spanish mackerel boats.
Northern Territory Seafood will be available for sale through a small number of outlets including The Bookshop Darwin; Arafura Catering; and Darwin Fish Market and online via www.ntsc.com.au.
