Government Set To Impose A 1364% Increase To Port Phillip Bay Commercial Fishing Licences

Please find attached a media release titled “GOVERNMENT SET TO IMPOSE  A 1364%  INCREASE TO PORT PHILLIP BAY COMMERCIAL FISHING LISCENSES” from Seafood Industry Victoria (SIV), the peak body representing Victoria’s seafood industry.

One of Australia’s oldest seafood fisheries, the Port Phillip Bay Fishery is being threatened under a proposed cost recovery system by Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, Peter Walsh. The new system will see the Port Phillip Bay Purse Seine Fishery license  increase from the current $367 to over $5300 by 2015, an increase of 1364%. Other Port Phillip Bay,  Westernport fishery licenses will increase by 37% by 2015.
