What is your current role?

I am a consultant to the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation focusing on improving the sustainability of global tuna fisheries.  This includes working directly with a broad range of countries, interest groups, and mostly politics – never a dull moment!

How and when did you enter the Seafood Industry?

Following the completion of my science degree, I joined a research team investigating the effectiveness of bycatch reduction devices on prawn trawlers in the Queensland prawn fishery and was involved in biodiversity surveys in the Great Barrier Reef. From 2004-2010 I worked for the South Australian industry directly.  I’ve also worked for the Commonwealth Government representing Australia at a range of international fisheries management fora including for both tuna and non-tuna species.

What do you love about the seafood industry?

The people and the opportunities: the people are very generous and it provides an incredible variety of opportunities. But mostly I love being on the water.

What is one of your most interesting moments?

Being part of the Census of Marine Life team and investigating biodiversity throughout the Great Barrier Reef.  It is amazing to consider the many critters collected through the program’s surveys were identified for the first time.
