Dr Michelle Voyer
My role in the industry:
Michelle is a Vice-Chancellors Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS). Her research primarily focuses on exploring the human dimensions of marine conservation and resource management, including commercial and recreational fisheries. With a background in Government she is interested in the ways in which policy can impact communities and resource users. Her research has explored the social acceptability of Marine Protected Areas, the values of coastal users and the motivations of recreational fishers.
She was most recently engaged in a project which examined the social and economic contributions of the NSW commercial fishing industry to local communities. She is currently exploring the social dimensions of the ‘Blue Economy’, which will include an exploration of the ways local communities can maximize the social and economic benefits they receive from the ocean in an environmentally sustainable way.
