Helen Johnson has over 30 years experience in anthropology, gender studies, community relations and social science. She has a PhD in Anthropology from Monash University and is currently a professor at The University of Sassari in Italy. In 2018 she will take up a Visiting Professorship at The University of Heidelberg in Germany.
Helen has written and edited numerous publications on women and gender, community relations, cultural diversity, international development and rural communities, with a particular focus on the Asia Pacific Region. She has supervised over 92 postgraduates at the PhD and Masters level to completion of their thesis research projects.
Helen has worked in both academic and consulting capacities for projects in Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, New Caledonia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and the Solomon Islands.
Helen’s experience and social research skills include research, data collection, drafting and editing of social, gender and human rights impact assessment; gender and development training and workshops; facilitation of visioning and post-project/closure workshops; project design and management; and social policy development.
