When and how did you get involved in the seafood industry?

At age of 18, I applied for a summer job on Kodiak Island at one of the last privately held Salmon Canneries in the state (Kodiak Salmon Packers, Inc.).  I spent exactly 3 weeks at the cannery that summer and made less than $500 and fell in love with the overall work experience, the people and salmon canning; I continued to work summers at that facility for 14 years.

Would you encourage women to follow a career in the seafood industry? Why?

Definitely!  It is a very diverse industry that provides an extremely challenging yet rewarding experience and I have only work in Alaska, I can only imagine what it must be like across other parts of the globe.

What drives me

The passion and energy that everyone in this industry puts forth into their work to ensure the safest seafood products leave Alaska and PNW.
