Over the past 2 years the QWIN Bundaberg Branch ladies have arranged to have a drinking fountain erected at South Park, Burnett Heads. This fountain has a commemorative plaque attached in memory of the professional fishermen who have fished in the adjacent waters of Wide Bay. Within the parkland seats have been donated and installed by families of deceased fishermen. Each park bench has a plaque attached in their memory. QWIN Bundaberg has worked closely with the Bundaberg Regional Council on this project.
There will be a dedication ceremony held at this fountain on 12th May, 2012. It is hoped that many of the old fishing families will get together to reminisce.
The parkland has been developed with electric BBQ’s, picnic areas, walking tracks, and a playground. The Old Burnett Heads Lighthouse, built in 1873 has been relocated and restored to this parkland. This lighthouse was replaced by a modern structure in 1971. It was manned until 1932. The new Burnett Heads Lighthouse is powered by an electric Tungsten Halogen Lamp.
