10 Sep

Dear WINSC Members, Past, Present & Future

I thought this was an ideal opportunity to provide an update on WINSC activities and opportunities and to urge you to consider applying for a position on the Board.

1. WINSC Conference.

We are very pleased to invite you to join us for the WINSC conference to be held on the beautiful Gold Coast from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd October, leading into Seafood Directions. We have an interesting agenda for members comprising of a mentoring workshop, a dinner with invited speakers including our current WINSC Professional Development Scholarship winner and a climate change workshop. It is also a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones as part of our seafood ladies network. The conference agenda is attached and can be downloaded from Here.

2.FRDC/WINSC Scholarship Winner.

Once again FRDC has provided $6000 for a WINSC member to undertake professional development activities in 2012. Previous winners have used the funds to visit prawn farms overseas, participate in conferences and visit seafood value adding factories and undertake leadership training.

The entries for this years scholarship close on 4th November so please think of a great professional development activity and complete the scholarship forms to be in the running. The scholarship forms can be downloaded from Here.

3. WINSC has been awarded a grant under DAFF “Recognising Women Farmers”

WINSC has been successful in applying for a DAFF “Recognising Women Farmers” grant and has commenced a project “Strengthening Board Capacity to improve service delivery to seafood women”. There is a great opportunity in this project to enter into a mentoring relationship with a current Board director with a view to joining the Board at a later stage.

4.WINSC continues to input into consultative processes.

Apart from the multiple roles held by WINSC members on local and state committees etc, WINSC is also invited to input at a national level into issues facing the seafood industry (e.g. National Rural Women’s Coalition, Seafood Services Australia meetings, FRDC People Development Committees). WINSC has been recently requested to provide comment on a number of relevant seafood industry issues including regional marine planning, caring for our country, various surveys.

5. WINSC AGM and Face to Face Board meeting

The 2011 WINSC AGM and Board meeting will align with the WINSC conference and will be held on Sunday 23rd Oct at 9am. Our meeting room will be the sub penthouse at the Waves Resort mentioned in our brochure. (Attached). Nominations are open for Board Positions. If you would like have more input into issues of concern to you and the seafood industry, complete the attached the nomination form. It could be a WIN WIN for you and WINSC.

It has been another good year for WINSC with more to come, please consider a Board position, or the Professional Development Scholarship as a wonderful lead-in. For your convenience I have attached a Membership Renewal Form which can be downloaded from here, along with the Brochure for our Conference and AGM which can be downloaded from here.

I look forward to seeing you at the Gold Coast in October.
