I have accepted an invitation to assist in the FRDC ‘fisher health’ extention project by Prof Sue Kilpatrick, Dr. Tanya King and Dr. Murray Noonan.  VFARM met with Dr. Tanya King for a group interview who also listened and observed the behaviours during a meeting with the Executive Director of fisheries Victoria, Mr. Anthony Hurst, Travis Dowling and Bill Luissier also from Fisheries Victoria Management Unit.

Fisheries Victoria showing their support for the wildharvest fishers of Port Phillip  & Westernport Bay fishery by circulating a pamphlet this month (as attached at the end of this report).  The flyer provides background information on the fishery including the key commercial target species, annual catch and value, the effect on effort resulting from the Western Port buyout, licence controls, rec fishing, sustainability, biology of whiting and snapper and seagrass.

VFARM representatives, Fisheries Victoria and Seafood Industry Victoria united attend public forum organised by Recreational lobby group at VFARM’s request.

Maria Manias is also the Executive Officer for VFARM – Victorian Fishery Association into Resource Management (Port Phillip & Westernport Bay access licence holders) who are wildharvest net and longline fishers of scalefish/finfish species.
